Best wind-protected beaches in Ibiza today
Wind completely changes your beach day in Ibiza. Choosing the right coast for the wind direction is the most important decision.
Quick answer
General rule: if the wind blows from the north or northeast (Tramontana), go south and west: Cala Conta, Cala Bassa, Cala Tarida, Ses Salines, Playa d'en Bossa. If it blows from the south or southwest, go north and east: Cala Xarraca, Portinatx, Cala Llenya, Cala Nova, Talamanca. Beaches that work well in almost any wind: Cala Llonga (closed bay), Port de Sant Miquel (protected bay), Cala Vadella (sheltered). Beaches that suffer more in the wind: Ses Salines with north wind, Cala Conta with a strong east wind, Playa d'en Bossa with south or southwest wind.
How to decide better
- Check the wind direction before you leave. It matters more than the sunshine forecast.
- Closed bays like Cala Llonga and Port de Sant Miquel work well in almost any wind.
- If you change plan because of the wind, stay on the same coast instead of crossing the island.
